What is the best way to learn these tricks?

Five Capture One tips you didn’t know

We’ll start with the one feature of the Color Editor that is most often overlooked: Skin Tone.

5. The color of Capture One has been changed.

Skin Tone is a great way to change the color of any image in Capture One!
Mask the object that you want to change. Select the entire color wheel under Skin Tone, and then set the Hue Uniformity value to 100.

You can now quickly change the color by simply moving the tiny dot around the wheel.

4. Alt Key to Add Filters

The filters in Capture One are a fantastic tool for navigating through your thousands of photos in your archive. You can by default filter photos based on any characteristic you choose (ratings, color tags, formats, dates, camera settings). By pressing the Alt key you can select multiple filters at once.

You can, for example, filter photos by color and rating. You can also add keywords to your search. You can also set the rules for multiple criteria searches in the Filters preference.

3. Use Luminosity masks to create a warm-cool contrast

The warm-cool contrast is a great way to improve your perception of an image. If you use a warm-cool image contrast, the viewer can assess it faster. It is easier to identify objects in an image, and the plot of a picture. The brain loves warm and cool contrasts.

Luminosity masks are one way to create warm and cool contrast in Capture One. Take this picture:

We only have to warm up some of the areas. It has already a cool contrast. Create a filled layer, then apply Luma Range in order to remove the dark parts of the mask.

You can now choose the tool you want to use. This area can be made warmer simply by raising the WB temperature, or adding some toning using Color Balance.

2. You can copy and apply adjustments in one click

You can copy all image corrections and then apply them with a click in Capture One. This is how it’s done:

Find the copy and apply adjustments short-cut and assign it a keyboard combination.

Be sure to use the Shift Key in your shortcut!
If you don’t, then it may require additional actions to make the necessary adjustments.
Select all photos that you want to edit and then click on the image to make the changes.

1. Adjusting the Lightness to Improve Color Grading

The Color Balance slider has three separate brightness sliders: Shadow, Midtone and Highlight.

They may seem a little simplistic compared with the HDR feature, but they work perfectly for color grading. There is no space to have a very intense color on a dark or bright image. It is helpful to correct the lightness of an image before grading it. This is what it looks like in real life; let’s take a picture with a large dark area.
